Explaining the Temple Ceremony to Non-member Guests

At the Reception
The reception itself can be an excellent opportunity to share in the joy of a temple marriage. Why not use the Proclamation document as part of your centerpieces or table decorations? You could also have a picture of the temple you were sealed in on display.

When Ilise Miller of Alamagordo, New Mexico, joined the LDS Church, she made a temple marriage her goal. Along with the chocolates, her guests will receive a copy of the Proclamation as a favor. She also plans on a ring ceremony in which the couple will bear testimony of the importance of being sealed in the temple.

Despite all your prayers and efforts to help family and friends understand, there may be hurt feelings and people who choose not to attend. You may be hurt and upset, but the focus should be on the celebration of this wonderful event, not who is missing. You must keep in mind that you are not marrying just to please family. You are marrying someone you love deeply in the temple because you know it to be right and you want to be together for eternity. Through all the tears and heartache, remember this.
